There’s a haunted house, in the neighborhood. With lots of ghosts, and ecto-goo. Who they gonna call? Well, you-ouuu! Scary ghosts, aggressive specters and ominous, haunted objects wreak havoc in town and it’s up to your Sim to save the spiritual serenity for the greater good. The Paranormal Investigator freelance career is not for the faint-hearted.
Paranormal Investigators are the ones who are called when things go bump in the night. While the job requires you to work through the night, there is a lot of freedom in the type of work to do. Harder gigs mean better rewards, but who knows… it might get pretty spooky there.
Prepare for your job as a Freelance Paranormal Investigator
Before jumping into the career path as a ghost hunting Paranormal Investigator some preparations are recommended. We have some tips and tricks for you to help make it easier to get a raise.
- Level up the Medium skill
Use a Séance Table to improve the Medium skill and learn more about the paranormal. This will help you tremendously while on the job. - Unlock the Brave Reward trait
Brave Sims get Scared less easily. As your Sim will encounter plenty of scary stuff during their work this might be a useful trait to buy in the Reward Store for 8000 points. - Go to work with a positive emotion
Pick the right traits so your Sim gets a happy buff quite easily. Make sure your needs are almost maxed out before starting a new gig. - Bring Sacred Candles…
These things will come in handy when you’re working. Sims, including yours, will feel more safe when near the candles and it might prevent them from becoming Scared. Purchase Sacred Candles in the Rewards Store for 500 points per three, or craft them using the Wraith Wax you’ve collected. - And Bizarre Idols too!
It might be wise to bring Bizarre Idols to work when you start doing more challenging gigs. You do not have to bring these necessarily, but it sure makes things easier when a certain Ghost manifests.
Pick the right Traits
It’s helpful to pick the right traits for the job. This will boost the happiness of your Sim while working.
- Genius
These Sims tend to be Focused, can Share Ideas with other Sims and may become upset if they haven’t improved their Mental Skills for some time. - Self-Assured
These Sims tend to be Confident. - Slob
These Sims are not affected by dirty surroundings and make household items dirtier faster.
How to get a Paranormal Investigator License
Unlike other Freelancer trades, you will have to prepare a bit more than usual to become a Paranormal Investigator. First you’ll have to acquire a Paranormal Investigator License to get accepted by the right agency.
- Prove yourself to Guidry the Ghost
When spending time in Haunted House Residentials, your Sim will be able to come across Guidry the Ghost. Make sure your Medium skill is high enough to prove you are worthy enough of the license. - Buy a License in the Reward Store
The Paranormal Investigator License is also available to purchase in the Reward store for 3000 points.
Once you have acquired your license you can go for the Paranormal Investigator trade. Pick up the phone and choose the Freelance career to get started. Then select the Federal Bureau of Spooky Investigation agency to help you find the right gigs.
Do you have spirits in your house? Do you keep finding creepy dolls in your attic? Do you ever hear creepy voices outside your head? Know this, Specters are out there and they’re kinda jerks.

How to Earn Simoleons and get a Raise
You can earn Simoleons by accepting gigs. You’ll get paid more depending on the difficulty of the chosen gig and your Sims’ hourly fee.
Ambitious Sims get a boost while lazy Sims take longer to get the raise. When your performance maxed out you’ll be given a raise.
You’ll start with §55 per hour and will earn §10 more in total each raise your Sims get. Apart from some money bonuses along the way, you won’t unlock any special interactions. However, the first time you max out the performance meter in your trade you will receive the Supreme Freelance Award.
Use cheats to level up the Paranormal Investigator career
You can also use this cheat to give your Sim a raise/promotion in the freelance Paranormal Investigator career:

I’m a Freelance Paranormal Investigator, now what?
Now that your Sim is officially a Paranormal Investigator it is time to check for gigs to complete. Your Sim will be able to pick between three difficulties: Beginner, Adept and the Expert Paranormal Investigation gigs. Each workday starts at 9:30PM and ends at 6:30AM the following morning. The location will be randomized and can be any residential lots in the worlds you have installed in your game.
Tip: You will not have to place any Haunted House Residentials in order to do this job!

How to Check for Gigs
Go to your career panel in the lower right corner of your screen. Click on the Check for Gigs button on the right of the career info panel.You can also use the computer to do this when you choose the option Freelancer.
Complete your Paranormal Investigations
To complete the Gigs you accept as a Freelance Paranormal Investigator you’ll have to actively go to locations and exorcise anything spooky you’ll find when you get there. Just like with other active careers, there will be a progress bar on the top left of your screen. It will fill up the more actions you successfully complete, as you have only one assignment to complete: Exorcise the Lot.
You can also choose to send your Sim by themselves, but where’s the fun in that?
What happens when you don’t finish the gig on time?
You’ll lose performance and you won’t get paid.
Interactions to Exorcise the Lot
Go to the haunted location and get rid of anything spooky, by any means necessary!
- Perform a Cleansing Ceremony
Create a Séance Circle and click it to Perform Ceremony and cleanse the spiritual serenity of the lot. - Appease Specters
You’ll find cute, floaty creatures around the lot. These apparitions are Specters. Depending on the difficulty of the gig they are either friendly, impartial or mischievous. Try to either make them happy or send them away. - Mop Mysterious Symbols
Clean up any weird-looking symbols on the ground. - Mop Slime Creature
Mop up any slimy puddle on the ground. Wait… was that a face? Yuck! - Remove Twisted Tendrils
Click on any of these nasty weeds and remove them from the lot. - Remove Creepy Dolls
Stomp on any of the accursed dolls showing up on the lot. YEET! No tea-party for you! - Remove Eerie Hands
These creepy looking trunk things, they’re hands. Yep, pretty disturbing. Click on one to remove them. - Ward off Temperance
Temperance is a Poltergeist who shows up when the spiritual serenity of a house is at its worst. Fight her off by placing a Bizarre idol near her or summon Bonehilda and let her kick Temperance’s butt for you.
Your Sim will be rewarded for exorcising the lot. Sometimes this means that next to their usual simoleons, they’ll get cool rewards in their inventory as well. You can collect three types of Specters in a jar, special candy and other objects. Feel free to keep the items or sell them to an Oddities Collector.
