The Sims 4 Death Guide, Killing your Sims

There are a lot of different ways your Sim can die in The Sims 4. They can die by Old Age, Overexertion, Electrocution, Hunger, Fire, Drowning, Cowplant, Embarrassment, Laughter, Rocket Ship Crash Landing, a Cardiac Explosion and more new deaths; Death by Steam, Death by Pufferfish, Sunlight, Poison and Guinea Pig. When you are trying to kill a Sim it will be much harder in The Sims 4 than in the previous Sim games but it’s definitely doable. If you want the easy way out for your Sim you can use the Death Cheats mentioned in this guide or can be found on the cheat code page. When new expansions are released with new death types, this guide will be updated.

When a Sim dies it doesn’t mean they are gone forever, they can come back as a ghost and even join your household. If you want, you can even resurrect a ghost into a living Sim again.

Death by Fire

Start a fire while cooking, light up the fireplace or crash land with a Rocket Ship

Your Sim can die in a fire that is mostly caused by the Sim itself or your interior architect skills. Causing a fire is actually pretty hard, it can take a lot of time. When there eventually is a fire on the lot, they will run away in panic. If you want your Sim to die in the fire, let them stand in it for a while and make sure other Sim don’t extinguish the fire. If you don’t want any Sim to die, extinguish the fire as soon as possible because it will spread out fast and can even go through walls.

Cause a Fire

• Use a low level Cooking skill on a cheap stove (try to cook grilled cheese, this worked for me).
• Put on the fireplace with rugs underneath it and let the fireplace burn for a very long time.
• There is a chance you will cause a fire when Transforming objects with the SimRay (requires The Sims 4 Get to Work).
• Go on a Space journey with your Rocket Ship with a low level Rocket Science skill. If you want it to crash, stuff fruit in the exhaust port if you have the Mischief skill on level 8.
• The fastest way must be not cleaning the Lint-Tray from your Dryer when using it. You’ll need The Sims 4 Laundry Day Stuff for this option.
• If you have The Sims 4 Seasons you can sabotage the Christmas Tree. When a Sim put on lights in that tree it will catch fire.

Use cheats to start a Fire

If you enter sims.add_buff BurningLove will increases your chances of causing a fire for 4 hours. If you want to burn your Sims alive immediately, enter the cheat code stats.set_stat commodity_Buff_BurningLove_StartFire 7 a few times. Every time you enter the cheat code and press enter it will increase the chance with 15% of starting a fire.

Prevent Fires from happening

Install fire alarms and a sprinkler systems in the rooms that have a higher chance of getting burned down. This includes the kitchen and the living room if there’s a fireplace.

Helpful cheat to prevent fires: fire.toggle {on/off} (Set to off to prevent fires from happening)

Death by Drowning

Let your Sim drown in the Swimming pool

Death by drowning isn’t hard to accomplish but it takes time. Start by removing the ladder and put a fence around the swimming pool. Now we wait. Your Sim will get tired and after a while your Sim gets exhausted. After this it will take another few hours for your Sim to pass out and drown.

Death by Laughter

Get your Sim in the Hysterical emotion

This must be the most original death in the whole Sims series. It’s pretty hard to get them so playful that they become hysterical. Try to gather happy moodlets from decoration, sitting by the fire or even working out. Here are some things you can do to get your Sim in the playful emotion.

• Watch Comedy on the television
• Take a Bubble Bath
• Read the book; Make Them Laugh ‘Til They Cry!
• Turn on the emotional aura of the collected MySims Trophies
• Turn on the aura of the Plumbob reward lamps: Paws Anonymous Reward or Tiki Topper Reward

Die by Laughter using a Cheat

You can also use a cheat to get your Sim Hysterical: sims.add_buff buff_Hysterical
After using this cheat your Sim has to stay in this emotion for a few hours to let your Sim die of laughter. But this shouldn’t be very difficult with a +100 playful moodlet *wink*.

Death by Cowplant

Feed your Sim to the Cowplant

Cowplants aren’t always cute when they’re hungry. First you need to obtain and grow the Cowplant to her adult stage for this to happen. After you ‘forget’ to feed the Cowplant for a while you can see a piece of cake hanging out of their mouth. If choose the option ‘Eat Cake’ there is a chance your Sim can get eaten by the Cowplant. There is around a 50% chance your Sim will survive. They can be spit out but there is a chance your Sim will die during the attack of the Cowplant.

You can prevent death by feeding your Cowplant regularly around every 12 hours. When there is no cake you can safely pet this creature. But when you try to eat the cake there’s always a chance to be eaten alive.

Death by Overexertion

Make your elderly Sim so Tired they will eventually die of Overexertion

It’s quite difficult to kill your Sim this way without cheating, since the game will not allow you to choose active lifestyle options for a very Tired Sim. When you Woohoo with an elderly Sim it’s possible they can’t keep up with a active lifestyle of your other Sim and they will eventually die by too many Woohooing. Look out for the Dangerously Tired moodlet, after this make them do one more activity to let them die of Overexertion. They are always up for Woohooing so try that one more time. Here are some tips to make your elderly Sim very tired:

• Go for a Jog
• Use the Weight Machine
• WooHoo!
• Cleaning dirty objects

Use a Cheat to die of Overexertion

If you use the cheat sims.add_buff buff_Death_ElderExhaustion_Warning your Sim will drop dead on the ground immediately. This cheat works on almost every age, not just elders.

Death by Electrocution

Try repairing electronics to fry your Sim

When repairing objects with a Sim that has a low level Handiness Skill (below level 5) there is a chance you Sim will get Singed or Seriously Fried. If you try to repair another electronic object after this, your Sim will die from Electrocution. Try to repair cheap electronics like; televisions, ovens, fridges, stereos or microwaves.

Use the Electrocution Cheat for faster results

Enter sims.add_buff buff_Death_Electrocution_Warning to give your Sim the Seriously Fried moodlet, this will make your Sim dazed for 4 hours. If you repair anything in those 4 hours there is a very high chance your Sim will die by Electrocution.

Death by Hunger

Let your Sim die by Starvation

When a Sim doesn’t eat for about 48 hours, they will die from starvation. When you see the Ravenous moodlet appear on your Sim they need to eat within 24 hours if they want to survive. If you want to let your Sim die just lock your Sim in a room without a food source and no doors, and wait…

Get the Ravenous moodlet with a Cheat

Use sims.add_buff Buff_Motives_Hunger_Starving to instantly get the Ravenous moodlet. After this it takes ‘only’ 24 hour for your Sim to die if they don’t eat something fast.

Death by Embarrassment

Get your Sim Mortified to die of Embarrassment

Dieing of embarrassment is pretty hard to accomplish in The Sims 4. It takes a lot of terrible circumstances for a Sim to eventually die of embarrassment. After your Sim has become very embarrassed you need to take it to the next stage, Mortified. Your Sim needs to hold on to this moodlet for a few hours in order to die. If you don’t want your Sim to die, you can ‘Hide from everyone when you click on a bed’. Make your Sim Embarrassed with these actions:

• Pee on the ground when other Sim are nearby
• Walk in on a stranger using the toilet
• Walk in on a stranger using the shower
• Walk around in public with low Hygiene level
• Have an embarrassing conversation witch another Sim
• Walk in on strangers that are busy Woohooing
• Practicing instruments at a low skill level with other Sim in the room
• Get rejected from a wedding proposal

Use the sims.add_buff Buff_Mortified cheat to make your Sim die in a few hours.

Death by Cardiac Explosion

Get your Sim so Angry that they become Enraged and die

Making your Sim die of anger isn’t very difficult. Make sure your Sim get into fights with other Sim by doing mean interactions. When you don’t want to let your Sim die of anger, let your Sim take a cold shower. Make your Sim angry with these interactions:

• Use mean social interactions
• Get your Sim into fights
• Look at an Angry painting or sculpture
• Eat Angry Flaming Spaghetti (requires level 5 Cooking Skill + Angry emotion)

Get your Sim Enraged with a Cheat

Use sims.add_buff buff_Enraged to instantly give your Sim the Enraged moodlet. Your Sim will die in a few hours after you used the cheat.

Death by natural causes

Let your Sim die of old age

Of course there is also a natural way to die in The Sims 4. When your Sim reaches the Elderly life stage they will eventually die of old age. If you want to know how many days your elderly Sim has left, click on Simology tab (Y) to see their life span. If you don’t want your Sim to die of old age you can turn of aging in the options menu within your game.

If you have The Sims 4 Seasons you can also speed up the progress. You can kill an elderly Sim with the flower arranging skill by adding a Death Flower to your arrangement. This will age up the Sim and elders will die if they receive this as a present.

Death By Steam

Let your Sim die in the hot Sauna

Requires: The Sims 4 Spa Day

When your Sim spend too much time getting a Superfluous Steaming in the Sauna they might meet their end. The first few hours your Sim will get a happy moodlet that builds up while staying in the sauna. After the Supreme Steaming moodlet they will walk out of the Sauna, but if you want to kill your Sims, put them back in ask quick as you can. With only a few hours extra your Sim will become uncomfortable. After this you will need to hold your Sim just a little bit longer in the Saunas for them to die.

When a Sim died from excessive steam exposure the Sim is constantly hot and dehydrated.

Death by Pufferfish

Kill your Sim with poisonous Pufferfish

Requires: The Sims 4 City Living

A pufferfish is a special fish that is very poisonous. Poorly cooked Pufferfish Nigiri can even kill your Sim. Only a high skilled chef can prepare the Pufferfish just right so your Sim can eat them without being poisoned. Poorly cooked Pufferfish Nigiri have a 50% chance to kill your Sim so make sure you check the quality of the dish first before eating it. You will increase the chance of killing your Sim by putting them in a bad mood.

Death by Sunlight

Let your Vampire Sim burn to death in daylight

Requires: The Sims 4 Vampires

Vampires can’t handle Sunlight. This will make them uncomfortable and they can eventually die from it. If this is your intention just leave your Sim outside for a long time and the sun will do its part. This will not work on toddlers and children.

Kill your (Vampire) Sim instantly with a Cheat

Use the traits.equip_trait Vampire_Sun cheat to make your Sim die instantly. They will instantly turn into a ghost. This will work on both Vampire and normal Sim.

Pets – Death by old age

Let your Pet die by old age

Requires: The Sims 4 Cats & Dogs

Pets can only die from old age. After they become an elderly cat or dog there isn’t a lot of time left for them. I’m not really fond of the animals in my household dying but the ghost pets do look amazing!

Kill your Pet instantly to become a ghost with a Cheat

Use the sims.get_sim_id_by_name {PlayedPetFirstName} {PlayedPetLastName} cheat to get the pet’s ID. After you obtained the ID you can fill in this cheat traits.equip_trait Ghost_OldAge {Pet ID} to make them a ghost instantly. This cheat works on kittens, puppies, adult pet and elder pets. They will remain their age in ghost form. If you want to resurrect your fluffy family member you can always give them the Ambrosia Treat.

Death by Poison

Slowly die of Poisoning

Requires: The Sims 4 Jungle Adventure

When you’re Sim is exploring the jungle, there’s a chance your Sim can get poisoned. This can happen by a spider, a bee swarm, poison dart, scorpion, when you openend a treasure chest or when you’re trying to pass a gate with poison gas. If you want to cure your Sim you’ll need to look for a Pile of Bones in the temple. Take the Pile of Bones to any local and ask for an antidote in return.

Kill your Sim by poison with this Cheat

Use the traits.equip_trait poison cheat to make your Sim die instantly. They will instantly turn into a ghost.

Death by Freezing

Kill your Sim by Freezing them in extreme cold conditions

Requires: The Sims 4 Seasons

If there’s a blizzard or if you use the Weather Control Device and active a blizzard you can kill your Sim by freezing them. Take the Sim outside and wear clothing from the hot weather category. It will take 5 hours for your Sim to freeze to death. Your Sim will turn blue and will freeze to death within the hour. Now your Sim is frozen solid and falls over. You can speed up the process by getting your Sim wet from the Swimming Pool, throw water balloons at them or use a Ghost who previously died by freezing and use the interaction ‘Cool Down Sim’. This will make the other living Sim extremely cold real fast.

Prevent Sim from getting too cold

You can just keep them warm with warm clothes and a warm house but there’s also an option in the game options to turn off the effects of extreme conditions.

Die by Freezing using a cheat

Use traits.equip_trait Ghost_Frozen to instantly turn Sim into a ghost who died by cold weather.

Death by Overheating

Kill your Sim by Burning Them Up

Requires: The Sims 4 Seasons

Use the Weather Control Device to change the current weather to Heatwave or wait until it’s hot enough in summer. Lock your Sim up in their house and turn up the thermostat (you can find this item in Buy Mode). Now you need to dress your Sim properly into clothing from the Hot Wear category. To fasten up the progress you can place your Sim next to a fireplace and choose the interaction ‘Warm Self’. If you have a ghost who died this way they can also heat a Sim up with the ‘Warm up Sim’ interaction.

Prevent Sim for getting too hot

You can just cool them off by wearing summer clothing and go for a swim but there’s also an option in the game options to turn off the effects of extreme conditions.

Die by Overheating using a cheat

Use traits.equip_trait Ghost_Overheat to instantly turn Sim into a ghost who died by extreme hot weather conditions.

Death by Murphy Bed

Kill your Sim by putting down a Murphy Bed

Requires: The Sims 4 Tiny Living Stuff

If you own The Sims 4 Tiny Living stuff pack you’ll get a new death in your game: Death By Being Crushed By a Murphy Bed. If you want to trigger this, you’ll need to put the bed down a lot or just sleep in it. Wait for the bed to malfunction and there is a chance that your Sim will be crushed by the murphy bed.

The ghost will have a z sleeping effect within its body and is afraid to sleep in beds from now on. Your ghost Sim needs to crash on the couch to fill their energy level.

Die by Being Crushed By a Murphy Bed using a cheat

Use traits.equip_trait trait_Ghost_MurphyBed to instantly turn Sim into a ghost who died by a Murphy Bed.

Death by Rabid Rodent Fever

Give your Sim the Guinea Pig Disease

Requires: The Sims 4 My First Pet Stuff

Become enemies with your Rodent pet and don’t clean their cage. When the Rodent starts biting your Sim there’s a chance that your Sim will catch the Rabid Rodent Fever. This disease lasts for 3 days and has 3 stages before your Sim will die. In stage 3 your Sim is highly contagious to other Sim when standing nearby.

To cure this disease you’ll need to research Rabid Rodent Fever on the computer. After you’ve completed the research your Sim can now order a cure.

Cure Rabid Rodent Fever with this Cheat

Remove the deadly moodlet with this cheat:
sims.remove_buff buff_Object_Pet_Minor_Cage_Rodent_Disease_3
Change the numbers on the end to cure a specific stage.

The Sims 4 Death ‘Fun’ Facts

• You can laugh at your enemies’ graves and it gives Sims a happy moodlet.
• Children can only die by drowning in the water, in a fire or die of starvation.
• When your Sim is very sad when a loved one passed away they can water the plants with tears.
• Start a harmless fire with the cheat code: objects.gsi_create_obj 0x0000abd9. It will not spread, nor ignite your Sim or nearby objects. It will disappear on it’s own.
