Spitting Llamas & How to Take Care of Them

I hope you’re just as excited as I am to take care of a llama in The Sims 4 Cottage Living. While they have been the game’s mascot for years, you can now finally have one as a pet! In this guide we go through everything you need to know to take proper care of your llama. Welcome to Llama Care for Dummies. Enjoy your stay!

How to Take Care of a Llama

To keep your llama happy and healthy they will need food, a shed to sleep in and lots of attention. Kids can also help out by taking care of the llama. But first, you will need to buy one, obviously. Clean the shed and llama itself regularly or they’ll become very smelly.

Tip: Llama’s will not be affected by weather conditions if you have The Sims 4 Seasons installed.

Buy your First Llama

For each llama you want you’ll need one animal shed. To begin, you should place an animal shed on your lot, which will take up 10×9 squares for each shed. This will include the free roaming area for your llama. Now click on the shed and select the Purchase Animal interaction. You can now either adopt a cow or pick one of the two llama’s, a white or a beige one, but don’t worry… You can change the color later on with animal treats!

Feeding the Llama

Llama’s will have a food supply on the side of their shed and will autonomously go eat whenever they are hungry. Make sure the feeder is stocked by yourself or you can upgrade the shed to automate the process. Your Sim can also feed your llama by hand, just click the llama for the interaction to appear.

Become friends with the Llama

A llama isn’t there just to look pretty while they produce wool, you can also become best friends with it. Make sure to give them lots of attention by giving them treats, socializing and looking after their needs.

Tip: Hover your llama with your cursor to see their needs, their age and the friendship level with your Sim.

When you gain a friendship with your llama you will have increased chances to get a positive outcome when interacting with them. This means you won’t get interrupted as much when trying to shear their wool. Llama’s will even guard the other creatures in your garden from wild foxes by spitting on them when they’re being mischievous.

Upgrade the Shed

To make it a bit easier to look after your llama you can add two different upgrades on the shed: ComfortCare Life Extender and the Livestock Auto Feeder. You will need Livestock Upgrade Parts, which you can get as a reward for doing errands for your neighbors. 

• ComfortCare Life Extender
  The ComfortCare system is like aromatherapy, art therapy, and music therapy, except it’s none of those things. But it does keep livestock relaxed, leading to increased lifespan!
• Livestock Auto Feeder
  This battery-powered device keeps the shed’s feed supply topped off, always and forever. Sims need never refill it. Ever!

Change the Appearance or Mood of your Llama with Treats

If you want to obtain colored wool – or just want to give your llama a funky color – you can do so by giving an animal treat to your llama. The effect wears off when you shear the wool of the llama, which will turn them back to their original state. There are a lot of different treats you can give your Llama with each a different outcome. 

To make animal treats you can click on the shed and use the Create Animal Treats at Fridge interaction, find it under ‘Action…’ when you click the shed. Your Sim will require a fridge to be on the lot in order to do this. You can also get treats from doing errands or buying them at the Garden Shop in Finchwick. Sims will have to unlock the recipes themselves, even when they are part of the same household.

	Friendly Treat Increases relationship with the animal and this will remove the side effects from other treats.
	Animal Party Treat Socializing with an animal has a stronger impact on their happiness.
	Fishy Protein Treat You can harvest one extra wool on the next harvest.
	Healthy Treat Increase the animals lifespan.
	Chocolatey Treat This will change your llama’s color into brown and they will produce brown wool for the time being.
	Flirty Treat Your llama will turn pink and you’ll get pink wool when shearing them.
	Fruity Treat Will make the llama a blue color and they will produce blue wool at the next harvest.
	Golden Treat Your llama will produce gold wool and will have golden yellow fur.
	Midnight Treat The llama will turn black and provide black wool.
	Pumpkin Treat Will make the llama orange and will give you orange wool on the next harvest.
	Rainbow Treat Change the color of your llama to rainbow colors, which will now produce rainbow wool on the next harvest.
	Spicy Treat Will change the color of the llama to red fur and this will give you red wool.
	Veggie Treat The llama will turn green and produces green wool.

Gathering Wool for Cross Stitching or Trading

While llama’s make great pets, they are also quite useful. Each day you can shear your llama’s wool which your Sim will gather in their inventory. You can use the wool to reduce the cost of Cross Stitching and even Knitting, if you have The Sims 4 Nifty Knitting installed. You can change the color of the next harvestable wool by giving your llama specific animal treats before you shear it.

Dress Up your Llama

Llama’s can wear all sorts of things; glasses, sweaters, back blankets and neck warmers. Gather wool from your llama and go to the Creature Keeper NPC in the Bramblewood. You can trade wool for animal clothing there. You can simply just buy the outfits, but where’s the fun in that? The available animal clothing will change each day, so make sure to come back often. 

Compete with your Llama or Wool in the Finchwick Fair

Do you think you have the greatest llama or wool of all time? Take them to the Finchwick Fair and earn prizes! The happier the llama, the better they will do at the competition. Make sure your llama is happy, well fed and clean before participating to increase your chances of winning.

Naming your Llama

When you click on your llama you have the option to name them. We’ve made a list for you with inspiration for llama names.

Life Expectancy of the Llama

Llamas can only die of old age. They will live around 30-40 days when the lifespan settings are set to normal. You can prolong their lives by:

• Giving them healthy treats.
• Complete the Country Caretaker aspiration for a reward trait.
• Upgrade the shed with the ComfortCare Life Extender.
• Turn off the Animal Aging setting in the pack settings menu.

Trade your Llama

If you can’t take care of the llama anymore or you want to get rid of them before they pass of old age you can choose to trade it. Use their shed to trade them away – an option you can find under Actions… – and choose what you want to receive in return. You will be able to trade it for simoleons, animal treats or ingredients & produce.
