The Sims 4 will be compatible with Windows 10

Simmers, If you’ve been thinking about upgrading your Windows PC to the newest version of the OS, now you have one more reason to do it! In fact, as SimGuruEugi stated on Reddit, the team is planning to expand support to Windows 10 since day one:

Our plan is to support Windows 10 at launch. However, we havenโ€™t started fully testing against it, so we canโ€™t say with 100% certainty whether things will go as planned.

As you may already know, Microsoft decided to offer Windows 10 as a free upgrade, and If you update your computer within a year from the OS launch planned on July 29, the upgrade will be free forever! You can find more info at the Windows 10 overview pageย ย or, if you have some questions, you can also head to the FAQ page.

If you’re worried about your save files, Microsoft says that they’ve designed the update to be ‘be fast, easy with no worries as your docs and files are preserved’, but I would suggest you to backup all your save files, just in case something goes wrong.

Update: The Sims 4, The Sims 3, The Sims 2 and The Sims Medieval will all work on Windows 10

  1. Hello,
Just want to ask when you find out if the sims 3 works on windows 10 please let us know before the free upgrade ends. As me and a friend is thinking of upgrading to windows 10 still but don’t want to do it and then find out that sims 3 wont work. Both me and this friend didn’t get the sims 4 as we didn’t like the graphics that much and stuck to the sims 3.

    thank you

I am always looking for some informations about this (I even asked the Gurus on Twitter, but they didn’t get back to me yet) and I’ll update the article as soon as I have more news. But you don’t have to worry: the free updates offer starts on JUly 29 and it will last for one year, so there’s still plenty of time left ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. I purchased a new computer with Win10 and my SIMS2 expansion packs are all crapping out on insert of Disk4 to ensure I am up to date. I am getting a TS2_upd.exe failed error. Have seen a lot of stuff out on the web and tried a couple of things but would like to know if EA will have an official solution for this sometime?

  8. I just spent 2 hours working to get Sims 2 complete collection to function on Windows 10 on my hp elitebook 8530w. I found out that Sims 2 was not designed to work with dual core processors or graphics cards higher than 800×600. Ea games no longer sells this game and no longer offers patches. I was told by Ea games that the only was Sims 2 will work on Windows 10 is if you already had it downloaded BEFORE upgrading to Windows 10, and even then there are reports of glitches including black screen, freezing, crashing during load, crashing during full screen, build grid not loading, walls disappear then reappear rapidly non-stop, and more. Some report flawless operations though.

  9. I recently downloaded sims 4 on my windows 10 desktop and tried to use the cheat code box and it won’t pop up. Any idea what could be the problem? Instead it takes a screen shot of what’s on the screen.

    1. Hi Nicole!
This is really weird…Try to repair your game through Origin (open Origin> My Games> Right click on the game cover> Repair Game).
Also, make sure to press all the required keys (Control + Shift + C) simultaneously. Hope you find this helpful!

  10. I have windows 10 and i really want to buy the sims 4 but is it now working or not??? I hope someone can answer my commont.

I installed sims 3 on my new i.5 core laptop, it has windows 10. So it installed fine, no problems, but then when I want to play it doesn’t do anything. It opens the game launcher, I click play…but then nothing happens. The game launcher disappears like it should but then nothing..I wait and wait forever. I have sims 4 as well but I haven’t tried instaling it yet on my new laptop as the sims 3 experience totally put me off. But I miss the game, I really want to play….please help.

  16. Hello! I tried installing The Sims 4 on my Windows 10 computer a while back but it actually installed as 3. On my old Windows 7 it installed perfectly fine, though. I know this article is rather old, but I was wondering if there was any explanation for this issue and if it has been fixed. Thank you!
