No more struggling with fountains disguised as ponds or with annoying debug catalogs, the Pond Tool is almost here! We got a first glimpse of the new ponds in the trailer for the upcoming expansion pack, The Sims 4 Cottage Living. The Pond Tool will be included in the Base Game via a free update coming in July.

How to Create a Custom Pond?
To make a pond you will need two Build Mode tools. Firstly you will create the depth of the pond with the Terrain Tool. This way you can create unique looking shapes for the pond. Then you fill the hole you’ve created by using the new Pond Tool. Pick a desired water height and fill the pond. Done in a jiffy!
Customize your Ponds even more!
Once you’re done creating the body of water you can add more details to the pond. Obviously you can place greenery around it, but besides that the Pond Tool allows certain VFX to be added, such as swimming ducks. Fish can be added to the pond as well, meaning your Sims can definitely spend their time fishing in a custom pond.
A few FAQ’s about Ponds
As the Pond Tool is a completely new feature in The Sims 4, let’s have a moment to dive into some quick questions & answers about them.
Can my Sims Swim in Ponds?
Unfortunately Sims are not able to swim in the ponds that you create. Your Sim can waddle around and splash in the shallow parts of the pond, much like they can in open waters in neighborhoods such as Willow Creek & Newcrest. This is due to the complex pathing system which allows your Sims to walk and swim around. Sadly it does not go well with deep waters in custom shapes.
Will The Sims 4 Seasons affect Ponds?
During colder weather conditions your Pond will freeze, which looks beautiful. However, Sims will no longer be able to play around in the shallow water as the water is too cold. Other than that Sims won’t be able to ice skate on frozen ponds either.
