The SimGuru’s have been answering even more questions about The Sims 4 Seasons this week.
It's an object (a very cool one).
— Emory (@SimGuruEmory) May 30, 2018
Yep ???
— Emory (@SimGuruEmory) May 30, 2018
Yes, if you use the weather controller you can have your eternal winter / snow / cold. pic.twitter.com/O7rN4D8h4d
— Emory (@SimGuruEmory) May 30, 2018
Would be totally lit if they did ? (they do)
— Emory (@SimGuruEmory) May 30, 2018
There are interactions to set your Sim's favorite weather / temperature, but I believe thunderstorms will always make your Sims tense if they're out. You can always make it so that they love the rain though.
— Emory (@SimGuruEmory) May 29, 2018
Yes, the thermostat can be too hot to handle if you're not responsible with it
— Emory (@SimGuruEmory) May 29, 2018
There's a new Weather Controller. Maybe some particularly handy Sims can use it to it's full potential ???
— Emory (@SimGuruEmory) May 29, 2018
Yep! If you're hanging clothes out to dry, rain will literally rain on your parade ?️
— Emory (@SimGuruEmory) May 29, 2018
We have categories for hot and cold clothing. I'm not using the phrase outerwear because the details are not important. TLDR: You're getting the thing you want 🙂
— Grant Rodiek (@SimGuruGrant) May 30, 2018
We do things differently in every game. Some engines do some things well, other things worse. I think we ultimately stack up VERY well to The Sims 3, but this was a case where it wasn't the right direction for The Sims 4.
— Grant Rodiek (@SimGuruGrant) May 30, 2018
No illusion. Everything you saw was captured in game.
— Grant Rodiek (@SimGuruGrant) May 30, 2018
Nope. No "issues with the world code." Every game is a different engine, which means different discussions every time.
— Grant Rodiek (@SimGuruGrant) May 30, 2018
This was not a performance issue for us. That is not the reason on The Sims 4. https://t.co/amC9AmB6Pk
— Grant Rodiek (@SimGuruGrant) May 30, 2018
Yes.
— Grant Rodiek (@SimGuruGrant) May 30, 2018
There are some great features we've wanted to make for a long time. I love the Bees.
— Grant Rodiek (@SimGuruGrant) May 30, 2018
It is compatible.
— Grant Rodiek (@SimGuruGrant) May 30, 2018
As I noted, we did not believe it would achieve the visual quality we expect of ourselves. It's a really complicated and nuanced discussion that I cannot fully get into.
— Grant Rodiek (@SimGuruGrant) May 30, 2018
Every Sims game is a different engine. Some things we evolve and bring forward, a lot we do not.
— Grant Rodiek (@SimGuruGrant) May 30, 2018
Our goal is to be open and transparent. We wanted to share the trailer, step away, and figure out how best to address this. In the past we probably would have been quiet, so this is sometimes new territory for us. I appreciate your patience as we figure it out.

We researched tech, art, and environment solutions and we were not confident that any of the approaches would be shippable.
— Grant Rodiek (@SimGuruGrant) May 30, 2018
I'll try to respond throughout the day, but ya'll were very busy over the weekend! Weather or not I can answer everyone's questions will depend on how much work we've got today. The Sims community is super passionate and it shows! ☀️?️❄️ pic.twitter.com/UOprihe1RU

Q. Will there be frost on windows in the winter?
A. Yes!
— Kate ? EA Play (@SimGuruKate) May 30, 2018
Folks: While we make a lot of decisions to improve and optimize performance on a wide range of PCs, our decision regarding deep snow was not due to performance. Be nice to each other.
— Grant Rodiek (@SimGuruGrant) May 30, 2018
Q. Will there be frost on windows in the winter?
A. Yes!
— Kate ? EA Play (@SimGuruKate) May 30, 2018
Q. Can your Sim get sunburnt?
A. No, but they can overheat which can have deadly consequences.
— Kate ? EA Play (@SimGuruKate) May 30, 2018
Q. Does raking leaves or shoveling snow help children with Responsibility if you also have the Parenthood GP?
A. Yes! Now can someone tell me how to convince my 18 month old to do this?
— Kate ? EA Play (@SimGuruKate) May 30, 2018
Q. Is there a Weather Channel for TVs?
A. Yes! Be sure to check it regularly so you can ensure you are properly dressed.
— Kate ? EA Play (@SimGuruKate) May 30, 2018
On whether the transition between seasons will be abrupt or blend. https://t.co/3Bix9CWTJ4
— Kate ? EA Play (@SimGuruKate) May 30, 2018
Yep! There's a snazzy new piece of UI for that
— Emory (@SimGuruEmory) May 30, 2018
These maps are unfortunately going to stay the same. They're actually fairly expensive to make, and having to support basically 4 maps with every new world we release post-Seasons takes away time that could be spent on new pack features. Sorry!
— Emory (@SimGuruEmory) May 30, 2018
One of our engineers likes to say "it's software, anything is possible." While that's true (as the amazing TS4 modding community shows), everything comes at the cost of time. Our team works *very* hard to get as much into each pack's development timeline as possible (1/2)
— Emory (@SimGuruEmory) May 30, 2018
But there are inevitably some features that are too expensive, for too little gameplay / visual payoff. We try to make the best decisions for each pack, but since The Sims closely mirrors real life (which is a bit hard to fully emulate), there are things that fall short. (2/2)
— Emory (@SimGuruEmory) May 30, 2018
I'm sorry if that isn't the answer you want to hear, but we're all very passionate about the game we work on and aren't trying to shortchange our players. If we had some kind of magical time device (hint hint @jk_rowling) that would be ideal, but reality is not that convenient. pic.twitter.com/NLWrsbWVQh
— Emory (@SimGuruEmory) May 30, 2018
Sorry, no hail this time around. Different weathers have visual fog / lighting effects associated with them though!
— Emory (@SimGuruEmory) May 31, 2018
Pools won't freeze in cold temperatures. In fact, there might be a special little surprise if your Sim is brave enough to take the plunge while it's freezing out. ❄️
— Emory (@SimGuruEmory) May 31, 2018
Holidays are worldwide 😉 pic.twitter.com/WYvsjWuNON
— Emory (@SimGuruEmory) May 31, 2018
Yep! And pools will make them cooler during the summer ?♂️
— Emory (@SimGuruEmory) May 31, 2018
There are footprints. They are hard to see here.
— Grant Rodiek (@SimGuruGrant) May 31, 2018
Time to add a 2nd save with a fresh Forgotten Hollow. #BringBackVlad
— George Pigula (@SimGuruGeorge) May 31, 2018
Neighbor houses will be decorated.
— George Pigula (@SimGuruGeorge) June 1, 2018
Correct. @SimGuruEmory put a pic of snowstorms a few days back. Its just a lot of snow in the way of my pretty decorations. 😉
— George Pigula (@SimGuruGeorge) June 1, 2018
Yep.
— George Pigula (@SimGuruGeorge) June 1, 2018
Yep. I was making snow angels before this shot. That and examing how shifty Glowman looks when outside in the snow.
— George Pigula (@SimGuruGeorge) June 1, 2018
Oof we totally forgot about this object (probably my bad since I also worked on vampires). It'll just remain deco, sorry! Hope I'm not in hot water ?
— Emory (@SimGuruEmory) June 1, 2018
??
— Emory (@SimGuruEmory) June 1, 2018
Calendars work by days. I don't want to steal anyone's thunder?️ by speaking ahead of schedule?️, so stay tuned 🙂
— Emory (@SimGuruEmory) June 1, 2018
It's available in the build catalog, and with enough handiness skill, your Sim could use it to do some shocking things ⚡️
— Emory (@SimGuruEmory) June 1, 2018
Nope, the thermostat will take care of all your cooling / heating needs!
— Emory (@SimGuruEmory) June 1, 2018
The decorations are applied to eaves or friezes. So if you make sure to include a frieze around a flat roof the decoration can be hung.
— George Pigula (@SimGuruGeorge) June 1, 2018
I've got all kinds of cool info on holidays I've been holding off on for now. Check out future blogs and info from @EAPlay I'll start dropping info when I feel its the right time.
Also, I like keeping people in suspense!
— George Pigula (@SimGuruGeorge) June 1, 2018
Like this? pic.twitter.com/Cfq28ml7e8
— George Pigula (@SimGuruGeorge) June 1, 2018
That is one of my favorite details.
— George Pigula (@SimGuruGeorge) June 1, 2018
The player will have various types of control and automation. Will discuss at a later date.
— George Pigula (@SimGuruGeorge) June 1, 2018
You can celebrate those holidays with just Seasons. Packs like Spooky Stuff will let you add more flavor to holidays, but they are not required.
I know people are curious so I'll talk more about this near launch.
Spooky Stuff does look cool though!https://t.co/Rb8LloUtJd
— George Pigula (@SimGuruGeorge) June 3, 2018
Quick question when we buy the seasons and update will the thermostat already be inside the house or do we have to buy one
