The last 5 months could be described as scarce regarding The Sims Franchise for some but the majority would describe it as eventful because this is the first Stuff Pack in five months for The Sims 4. I would consider this a good thing because lately, it seems as if the only packs existing are Stuff Packs.
So what might you ask comes with The Sims 4: Vintage Glamour Stuff, it comes promising two new premium objects, Art-Deco, and, an interesting first for a Stuff Pack which is a brand new non-playable character (NPC). Though all this sounds all cool and fun, we really need to be asking ourselves does this Stuff Pack deliver? Well, let’s find out if The Sims 4: Vintage Glamour Stuff delivers!
Build / Buy Items:
The Build/Buy items definitely remind me of the Golden Age Hollywood era, and they are very elegant. The furniture is still plain enough and not out of the ordinary to use for many occasions. I would definitely recommend this pack as a combo with The Sims 4: City Living Expansion Pack because they really go well together and it will add lots of glamour to your penthouse. One thing The Sims 4 has definitely not lack in lately is color swatches, and I feel that can be said with this pack as well. Don’t get me wrong a color wheel would be amazing if it was in addition to the color swatches. I love the color options brought with the build/buy items in this pack, and It definitely reminded me of the golden age Hollywood era. I have to admit the biggest strength of this pack is the Build/Buy items so if you’re a builder you will not be disappointed.
Create-A-Sim Items:
I’ve always loved CAS ever since The Sims 1, Create-A-Sim is a very special part of my life and it always will be near and dear to my heart. Though this pack does have some very great Create-A-Sim items there were also very few items, which is expected in a stuff pack but there were a lot fewer than normal. I would’ve thought there would have been a lot more CAS items assuming the amount of time given since the last stuff pack, but I assumed wrong.
The Clothing is very old-fashioned and definitely elegant not to mention some could be considered historical regarding their uses in the past. Sure, this might not be a look for all types of sims, but there are definitely good options especially for formal looks as well which is great. The new hairstyles are all very impressive which came as a surprise to me considering I would’ve never thought of a nice type of hairstyle to include in a pack like The Sims 4: Vintage Glamour Stuff. I can definitely see myself using all of the hairstyles, I love how they had a variety of options. There are new hairstyles for all genders and age groups which I think is wonderful because sometimes I feel like it’s all focused on the adults. Children get less attention still though once again, which is expected unfortunately considering it’s not The Sims 4: Kids Room Stuff. There are only one hairstyle and one new clothing item for each gender and that is it for the children sadly. However, the clothing items were very well done for the children still especially the males. We got new accessories with this pack which is great as well because I feel that has been lacking lately. The women get some very beautiful necklaces, there are even some fancy watches for both genders. There are even new shoes in this pack which I think was desperately needed, maybe not as much as some stuff but still needed. I just think we should have gotten a few more CAS items, especially after how long we’ve had since a stuff pack. I believe The Sims 4: Vintage Glamour Stuff Create-A-Sim had a huge opportunity to excel but I think The Sims Team did not take advantage of that opportunity sadly.
Premium Object: Vanity Table
The Vanity Table is personally my favorite new gameplay object in this pack, especially because of the playful and cute interactions that come with it. I think the animators really outdid their selves with this object. There is a bundle of makeup choices with this object, it boasts a great 50+ choices so you are sure to find a makeup preset choice that fit’s your sims needs. I was very impressed by the fact that they shockingly did not leave children out of luck regarding gameplay with the vanity table object as well as the globe bar. The Children are able to play with the vanity table and try their luck with makeup, it’s up to you to find out the result but it is not pretty. My one problem with this object is that the makeup is already preset and so you can’t customize it, which seems to be the same thing that The Sims Team has been sacrificing lately.
Premium Object: Globe Bar
The globe bar is an interesting and unique new addition, that I would never have thought would come to The Sims Franchise. Shockingly, many people don’t understand the reference of the globe bar but I surprisingly am one of the few who does but that might just be because I’ve grown up in a house the last almost 14 years with one so I’m quite familiar with it. I am super glad to have this object in the game because it makes me feel like I’m in my own house. I’m very satisfied that kids can study this globe because I do the same at my house currently for history class so the fact that The Sims Team implemented a meaningful real world use for this type of an object is great! There are also new drink recipes included with this globe bar which is great. Even though this object is very near and dear to my heart, I do not think it is a game changer and I believe there are bigger priorities.
New NPC: Butler
The butler is a very well thought out NPC, and I think that it is a really interesting system based off of what the SimGurus were saying about it in The Sims 4: Vintage Glamour Stuff Twitch Livestream. The Butlers really work hard and do their duty which is nice because I find that maids just scatter about and just do what they want to do even if it takes hours on end. Though not every Butler might be for you because they are all different. Each Butler has their own unique traits. You can assign the butler responsibilities, so if your sim wants to be hands-on with repairs, gardening, cleaning or childcare, they can ask the butler not to perform any of those and he/she will obey your request. You can make specific requests based on your surroundings which I think is really cool. What is really convenient is that they don’t count against the sim limit in your home. The animations are by far top-notch, which is important since they are going to be doing your tasks or at least they should be. Though I was super disappointed by the number of tasks that they can do for you because it was very few in my opinion.
