Give your Sims Memories in The Sims 4

Recently I’ve seen a lot of concerns surrounding memories for your Sims. Players of The Sims 4 miss this gameplay feature a lot. Rightfully so as it was a great addition for storytellers in the previous games. But what if I tell you there actually is a memory system in The Sims 4? No mods required either!

How to add Memories in The Sims 4

Memories can be made in the Screenshot Manager of your game. The Manager is linked to the screenshots folder on your computer. Usually you can find the screenshots here:

C:\Users\UsernameHere\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4\Screenshots

To add a memory for your Sims take the following steps:

1. Open the Screenshot Manager
2. Pick the screenshot you want for your memory and click on it
3. Write a description (optional, but way more fun)
4. Press the Make Memory button to add as a memory

How can I view my Sims’ Memories?

Unfortunately memories don’t get added to a specific album of some sorts, so you’ll have to revisit them in the Screenshot Manager. You can recognize memories in the Screenshot Manager by the icon of a little head in the bottom-left corner of the screenshot. The icon will appear in the color of the corresponding emotion of the memory.

To view a memory follow these steps:

1. Find the memory you want to view in your Screenshot Manager
2. Click on the picture to open up the Screenshot Details
3. Press the View Memory button to open the Memory Details

Now that you’ve opened the Memory Details you’ll see a couple of things you can do. 

• Sims in the screenshot will be automatically tagged in the memory. You can delete the memory for a specific Sim by hovering over their portrait and click the cross.
  • Re-apply the memory for all deleted Sims at once by clicking the Recall Tagged Sims button.
  • Screenshots from other saves will not get tagged properly as the Sim doesn’t exist in the current game.
• Relive the moment by clicking the Have Sims reminisce on the Memory interaction. This will give your Sim a 4h moodlet, boosting the emotion from the memory.
• Add a description if you haven’t already.
• Delete the memory if you don’t want it anymore.

Where do I find the Screenshot Manager?

There are two ways to find the memory system in The Sims 4, but it all comes down to the Screenshot Manager of your game. This feature is connected to all the screenshots you’ve taken so far, as long as they remain in the screenshots folder of your game. 

• The first way to access the Screenshot Manager is by clicking the button near your time and gamespeed UI. Find the button which says Camera Options and open it, you should now see three options. Click on Screenshot Capture Manager.

• The second way to access the Screenshot Manager is a little bit more complicated, but I thought I’d explain it nonetheless. Go to the Screen Capture tab in your Game Options menu and make sure the Show Dialog After Capture option is turned on. Whenever you take a screenshot now, you’ll get a pop-up dialog. On the bottom-left side of this dialog, you’ll find the View Screenshot Manager button. This dialog does not open after taking screenshots in Camera Mode (tab-button) or if Sims take their own pictures such as selfies.

So yeah, The Sims 4 does in fact have memories for your Sims, the feature is just easily missed as you have to know where to look. Unlike previous games it’s completely up to the player to add memories, which makes them more unique and personal.
